Robert Snowden - Getting Things Done

Robert Snowden is InCUBATE’s October-December 2008 person-in-residence.  Robert will be working on multiple projects during his residency.  One project of his that InCUBATE is collaborating on is Spring Break Papers, a free publication that Spring Break’s curatorial team assembles with a guest artist that is distributed in a city of the artist’s choosing.  After the issue, the artist then joins Spring Break’s curatorial board.

InCUBATE’s role in the collaboration revolves around developing a model for the funding and distribution of the publication in Chicago.  Instead of asking for non-reciprocal donations to keep the paper free, we are creating an experimental advertising format in which artists, art spaces, businesses and institutions are invited to promote their own projects and take part in the distribution process.  Participants will receive a space in the paper to publicize their own projects and will be plotted on a map of other advertisers, creating an informal network of collaborative dissemination. Print advertisements usually don’t come cheap, and we would like to provide the opportunity to reach beyond pre-established audiences in a targeted and cost-effective way. By joining forces, these investors bring their projects to the attention of a greater, interested audience. Space will be allocated equally and price will be determined on a sliding scale, based on individual capacity.

We’ll be posting progress of the project to serve as a record of our process and to keep those interested up to date.
